CCIC Is Doing its Homework

February 5, 2007

We need your help. We'd like to issue a Special Request for folks across our state that would be interested in serving on the Coastal Carolina Indian Center Educational Commission to please submit their names and e-mail or snail mail address along with a phone number to greatsaltwater@earthlink.net.

This may include teachers and/or parent volunteers presently working within the public school system. One does not have to be Native American to serve on this commission, but you must share a devoted interest in addressing educational issues that affect not only Native American Students but students-at-large (as it relates to teaching Indian history and related topics) attending any one of our public schools from the mountains to the coast.

Some of the questions this commission will be addressing are:

  • How many high schools across our state presently are offering, or have offered in the past to all high school students, the NC Public Schools Native American Elective?
  • How current is the curriculum presently being taught to North Carolina public school students as it relates to teaching North Carolina Indian history?

Warmest Regards,

Teresa Morris
President, CCIC
