News Bulletin The following is the text of a resolution introduced by Snow Hill Mayor Don Davis and passed unanimously by the Snow Hill Board of Commissioners on April 9, 2007. (CCIC wishes to thank Snow Hill Town Administrator Bob Clark for allowing us to repost this resolution on our website.) Resolution
Supporting the Preservation of the Tuscarora WHEREAS, the Snow Hill community and surrounding area is the location of Tuscarora settlements and Fort Neoheroka; and WHEREAS, Fort Neoheroka was the last stronghold of the Tuscarora Confederacy, and is the largest Indian massacre burial site in the nation; and WHEREAS, this remains an important part of our heritage and history that should be protected; and WHEREAS, efforts should be made to properly preserve all artifacts; and WHEREAS, all human remains excavated should be appropriately reburied and memorialized; and WHEREAS, efforts should be made to recognize the Tuscarora culture, settlements, and Fort Neoheroka site for its historical significance to our community; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
THAT the Town of Snow Hill supports efforts to preserve the settlement sites
and Fort Neoheroka and pledges to educate and inform our citizens of the
importance of these efforts.
